Ways I’ve learned to restore and emotionally support myself

Years ago, I told my then therapist what I really needed was a long hug. Nothing more. Simply to be held. No strings attached. No sex. Just held and reassured that I had someone to lean on.

However simple sounding, that feeling of warmth and support was what I needed…

No longer needing to hide who we are

Bring me to the forest
where ferns are full-on footpaths
mixed with a deciduous passion
and evergreen majesty.

Walk with me
through a pine spent labyrinth of daydreams. …

A lyrical poem

The hush of predawn is a bar-like hum
and my rich, dense espresso
replaces Glenfiddich’s amber depth

Still, I can hear the jazz band playing
not too far from the wobbly table
holding my memories in leverage

The sweat of sweetness

A midlife reflection on being true to oneself

Let’s touch the ground
to slow ourselves down
and study the space between raindrops

Let’s daydream for just two-minutes
to help us navigate the turmoil

How much I love you

Photo by Sai De Silva on Unsplash

This time, I kept myself together
no tears spilled over a bursting heart
budding into an emotional avalanche

or so I thought
until I got home
and closed the quiet front door

white water rapids
are not only for rivers
but express a sensitive heart

another goodbye
see you soon…

Is noticing the little moments of poetic beauty

A string of clear pearls
line scarlet leaves
waiting for the sun’s warmth
to release them

I’m privy to this magic
on yet another early morn
when the sky’s eyes
are barely awake

and yet this glistening
catches me
to stop and wonder how
those iced pearls

formed their sorcery
as…
