{a poem}

It’s been a few days
baptized with rains and hails
that carpeted the ground
with a welcomed early kiss
from winter.

It’s been a few days
where my words
have been sifted
through cheesecloth
stretched between mountains
and hummingbirds have stitched
a fine lace along their edges.

It’s been a few days
with my prayers up,
head down and heart open
to hear a new way
to river what and when and why.

It’s been a few days
of virgin spaciousness
that needs a carefulness
likened to a talisman
as it coaxes a compass of compassion.

Its been a few days
with the shades of saltwater shoals
and jetties of granite’s imagination.

It’s been a few days
where I’ve become origami
and shifted into the creases
to celebrate how I’m learning
that slower is what holds me steady.
