A Most Unusual Pre-Valentine’s Day Story
And just when I thought all was semi-normal — it wasn’t. A host of ghosts visited me.
The first one was Anxiety.
She was remembering those dates when she tried to make everything perfect. With a gift and dinner and too much worry when really a bowl of ice-cream would have been just right.
Before Anxiety continued with her list of worries, I handed her a bowl of ice-cream and she sighed, ‘this is just right.’
As soon as Anxiety left, a breeze came through and Sadness visited. She wore a tissue dress and cried and cried and wiped her tears on an endless sleeve of blue.
I made her tea.
I told her, “those days are over waiting for someone to show up and forgetting you.”
Sadness felt heard.
She sniffed and shuffled away leaving a nice pile of tissues because she didn’t need them anymore.
By midday Loneliness arrived.
The room grew very, very dark and cold.
So, I gave her my softest blanket and two pillows. She closed her eyes and dreamt of the sea and the waves sung to her. She shared with me the melody.
In between the ghost visits and daily stuff, I pulled out my favorite pen and started to stream a love note.
Something short and sweet — ‘hey, you! You’re not so bad. I really like you…’
I smiled with the pen in my hand. And that’s when Love arrived.
This surprised me.
But she sat down and wrapped a blanket around, made me tea and offered me a cookie.
We chatted a bit and then she said —
“You’ve come so far. I’ve been watching you and I thought today would be a good time to let you know, I believe in you. Your dreams and words are truly from your heart. Keep going. Keep writing. Keep knowing — you are the love that you’ve been waiting for.”
