The Silence Between Seasons

I smell the signs of spring
before buds yet to burst
and witness the dance
of sparrows at play
on a quiet branch.

The intensity of their ease
summons me to release
the demands of everyday,
the juggle of everything
which can miss the golden arc
of daydreams.

In this reverie it tells me
even when endings come
there’s a silence
that can’t be filled
until the season passes
into the next.

And there
the trees will bud
and the song will still play
as if the birds have nested
the lessons in our soul.
