When the Sea Rises in Our Eyes

A poem

We know there are days
that call us to speak to the wind
and listen to the sounds of Nature
as she guides us along prairie stretches
of silent waters.

Dusk seems present from dawn to night
and the rhythm of centering our self,
wonders aloud as we talk
with the spirits initiating our courage
to just be with the moments pouring in.

And the cloud currents
race with the sky
as we raise our heart
to hear the answers.

We might swallow hard
and taste the sea rising in our eyes
and reach for a stray island of tissues,
while wearing sunglasses
because our inner storm falls from inside out
and we just need extra darkness to hear better.

These are the very days we know
the purity to shield ourselves
until we can see the circles,
cradled like a stray leaf
between discernment and loving ourselves.
